The College Timeline at EHS

Sophomore Year

Guidance counselors visit all English classes to discuss skills assessments and using Choices computer program.

Start to research careers that interest you.

Check NCAA requirements if you are involved in sports and consider playing in college.

Junior Year

October
  - consider attending the UNH college fair to gather information
  - take the PSATs

February
  - Guidance counselors visit all US Studies II classes to administer the The Harrington-O'Shea inventory and to explain how to use the results to begin the college exploration process.

March
  - Guidance counselors will review your transcript and course selections for your senior year

April
  - Self-Audit form for EHS guidance that helps them be aware of what you're looking for and what your priorities are
  - work up a list of potential schools and plan to visit them - may use spring vacation to visit

May/June
  - take the SATs - may also take in early Fall

Summer
  - send for college applications
  - visit colleges

Senior Year

September
  -Start to research scholarships
  -Determine who you will request recommendations from
  -Decide on early decision / early action
  -Register for fall SATs and/or ACTs

October
  - take Admission tests
  - develop calendar with dates for application deadlines
  - mail early decision / early action applications (Oct.15 - Dec.15 - check schools for specifics)

November
  - start writing your essay

December/January
  - mail applications - watch deadlines and requirements carefully (Jan.1-March 1 - check schools for specifics)
  - start working on FAFSA Financial Aid form with your parents

March/April
  - look for decision letters
  - continue to keep your grades up - college admission is contingent upon your final high school grades
  - evaluate financial aid offers and notify college of choice by May 1

May
  - notify other colleges that you won't be attending

Summer
  - know when tuition and room-and-board payments are due
  - check on school start dates and orientations
