EXETER HIGH SCHOOL LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTIONS
SPRING 2007

 

The following scholarships will be awarded to seniors of Exeter High School at the June Scholarship Awards Ceremony.  In order to be considered, you must complete the Exeter High School Local Scholarship Application and submit it to the High School Guidance Office no later than 3:00 PM on April 2nd.  You may submit it with some of the financial questions incomplete if necessary but then you must inform Guidance no later than April 16th with an update of the financial and college information.  Please include with your application:

 

  1. FAFSA copy of the Student Aid Report (SAR) that includes the EFC. (Estimated Family Contribution)
  2. A $5 application fee to cover the cost of copying and mailing. (Fee waivers for Talent Search students)

 

The scholarships on the following pages are listed in several categories, according to how their recipients are determined.  On the last page of the application form please designate the scholarships for which you feel you are clearly eligible by circling the appropriate numbers.  Student and parent signatures are required.  Copies of your application and transcript of grades will be forwarded to the committees, which decide each award.

Option #1 Scholarships

 

Sponsor determines the recipient from the information provided on the EHS Scholarship Application and additional application materials that are required by the sponsor.

 

1.1              Exeter American Legion Post #32 – 4 year College Scholarship for Exeter High senior who has been accepted into a 4-year college.  Preference given to a relative of a member of Post #32.

Obtain separate application form from EHS Guidance Department.

 

1.2              Exeter American Legion Post #32 Vocational-Technical College Scholarship

Same as above except for 2-year Technical College.

 

1.3       Kensington American Legion Post #105 – 4 year College Scholarship for Exeter High senior who has been accepted into a 4-year college.  Applicants must be residents of Kensington or have a relative who is a member of Post #105. Obtain separate application form from EHS Guidance Department.

 

1.4       Kensington American Legion Post #105 Vocational-Technical College Scholarship –

Same as above except for Vocational-Technical College.

 

1.5       Unitil Energy Systems Scholarship – Sponsored by Unitil Energy Systems’ employees for an Exeter High senior who shows financial need by submitting a complete copy of the FAFSA, high academic record and involvement in extra-curricular activities.  Additional application materials are required.  Inquire in Guidance.

 

1.6       Senior Wrestling Scholarships – Class of 1988 & Chisolm Family – The Exeter High senior wrestler who has done the most to promote the sport of wrestling.  Additional application materials are required (essay).  Inquire in Guidance.

 

1.7              Exeter Star in the East Lodge #59 Scholarship – Awarded to an Exeter High Senior who best exemplifies character, charitable service to school and community, leadership, demonstrated scholarship with a keen desire to further their education.  Preference will be given to applicants who are or have been active members of either Demolay or Rainbow Girls.  Obtain separate application form from EHS Guidance Dept.

 

1.8              Exeter Area GFWC Scholarship – Exeter High senior planning to attend a 4 year College who has been involved in above average community service.  Preference is given to students who have volunteered for Jr. Women’s Club activities or projects.  Not based on financial need.  Additional materials required – Inquire in Guidance.

 

1.9       Exeter Girls Soccer Boosters Scholarship – Exeter High senior girl who has played soccer for 4 years at Exeter High School.  Essay required.  Obtain additional form from EHS Guidance Dept.

 

 

Option #2 Scholarships

 

Sponsor determines recipients from the information provided on the EHS Scholarship Application.

 

2.1              Exeter Kiwanis Club Scholarship – Exeter High senior who will attend an accredited 4-year college.  Special consideration is given to students with extensive, documented community service involvement and financial need.

 

2.2              Stephen P. Bell/Timothy A. Bell/Tricia Flynn Caley Memorial Scholarship – Exeter High senior male or female who has been a three sport varsity athlete, preference given to ice hockey, golf, and/or baseball and who will be attending a prep school, college, business, vocational or technical college.

 

2.3              Kimball-Jewell Junior League Baseball Scholarship – Any senior who has participated in the Exeter Junior Baseball league and will attend any secondary school.

 

2.4              Exeter Crime Line Scholarship – Exeter High School graduating senior furthering their education, 2 or 4-year school in the field of criminal justice, with evidence of community service.

 

2.5              Anne Therese deLaBruere Geanoulis Scholarship – Exeter High vocational/technical student who is

interested in business education or computer technology and planning to attend a 2 or 4-year college.

 

2.6              Robinson Seminary Alumnae Association Scholarship – Exeter High female seniors who plan to further

their education and who are willing to come to be interviewed by their committee for selection.

 

2.7              Exeter Professional Firefighters Assoc. Scholarship – Graduating Exeter High senior who is planning a career in firefighting or emergency medical services, second preference, those planning a health related field.  Must be accepted to a 2 or 4 year college.

 

2.8              KLD Art Scholarship – EHS Senior who will be attending a 4-yr. college majoring in Art or Fashion Design.

 

 

EAST KINGSTON RESIDENTS ONLY

 

2.9       Brown Academy Trustees Scholarships – East Kingston residents who are seniors at Exeter High or in      

their first year of college.  For 1, 2, or 4 year full time college programs.

 

2.10          East Kingston Friends of the Library Scholarship – EHS senior, E. Kingston resident who will be  

attending full time a 2 yr. technical or 4 year college.

 

BRENTWOOD RESIDENTS ONLY

 

2.12      John Gaynor Memorial Scholarship – Brentwood resident.  Must be a graduate of the Swasey School.  Planning to attend a 2 or 4-year college.

 

2.13      The Blue Polly Scholarship – EHS Senior who will be attending a 4-yr. college in the Liberal Arts and   

who resides in Brentwood.

 

STRATHAM RESIDENTS ONLY

 

2.14     Stratham P.T.O. Scholarship – Exeter High senior who is a resident of Stratham and a Graduate of Stratham Memorial School, going on to a post-secondary education.  Awards based on ability, financial need and community service involvement.

 

2.15     Stratham Teacher’s Association Scholarship – Exeter High senior who is a graduate of Stratham Memorial School and going on to a post-secondary education.

 

 

Option #3 Scholarships

 

The Exeter High Faculty Scholarship Committee will determine the recipients according to the specifications of the scholarship.  The names of the recipients and the college they will attend will be forwarded to the sponsor in May.

 

3.1              Exeter Education Association Scholarship – Sponsored by Exeter teachers for an Exeter High senior who is pursuing a post secondary education.  Preference given to children of EEA members and/or those planning a career in teaching.  Financial need and academic performance are considerations.

 

3.2              Southeastern NH Retired Educator’s Assoc. Scholarship – Exeter High senior accepted into a 4 year college.  Preference given to students pursuing a career in teaching (Awarded on a rotating basis among 3 high schools).  Next Exeter Award 2007.

 

3.3              Irja Waris Anderson Memorial Scholarship – Exeter High senior who has been accepted to an accredited 4 year college and is planning to pursue a career in elementary school teaching.

 

3.4              The Barbara Counsel French Scholarship – Exeter High senior with high academic achievement in French who expects to pursue the teaching of French as a career.

 

3.5              John A. Anderson Memorial Scholarship – Exeter High senior who has been accepted into an approved school in a trade or vocational program.  Must have demonstrated excellence in industrial arts or technology education.

 

3.6              Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship – A graduating senior girl who plans to pursue a career in teaching. 

Awarded every other year to an Exeter High student.  Next Exeter Award 2007.

 

3.7              Carol Korzenewski Endowed Fund – Any Exeter High senior who has been accepted and will attend  the University Of New Hampshire College of Engineering and Physical Sciences.

 

3.8              OSRAM Sylvania Engineering Scholarship – Exeter High senior who has been accepted into a 4 year engineering program.

 

3.9              OSRAM Sylvania Vocational-Technical Scholarship – Exeter High senior who has been accepted into an accredited vocational-technical college.

 

3.10          Exeter Lions Club Scholarship – Exeter High senior who plans to attend a 2 year vocational-technical college.  One award to a boy, one award to a girl, in financial need.

 

3.11     Jean S. Tufts Memorial Scholarship – Exeter High senior who has been accepted into a 4 year program in the field of education, particularly special education or rehabilitative services.

 

3.12     Tufts Family Scholarship – Exeter High senior who is pursuing post secondary education and has made significant achievements in athletics and academics.

 

3.13     Blue Line Hockey Scholarship – A senior who has been an Exeter High ice hockey program member (including managers) for at least two years, and is pursuing a 2 or 4 year post secondary education.

 

3.14     Exeter Hospital Associates Scholarship – Exeter High graduating senior planning to pursue a career in a health related field at a 2 or 4-year school.  Selection based on merit and/or financial need.

 

3.15     Carol and Susan Lutes Memorial Scholarship – Exeter High senior who is pursuing a post secondary education and a career in biology or a related field.

 

3.16     Lucy Eleanor Manix Dawson Scholarship – EHS senior female who has been accepted and plans to attend the University of New Hampshire majoring in Health, Nursing and/or Social Service, preference given to those specializing in geriatrics, working with the elderly.

 

3.17     Bruce Ellis Memorial Scholarship – Award given to a boy and girl who have participated in the EHS track program for at least 3 semesters and have been accepted to a 2 or 4 year college.

 

3.18     EHS Field Hockey Boosters Scholarship –  EHS senior girl who participated in Field Hockey during her senior year and is planning on attending a 2 or 4 year college.

 

 

EXETER RESIDENTS ONLY

 

3.20     Walter and Elizabeth Pennell Scholarship – Exeter High senior who is a resident of Exeter and has the highest grade point average in the senior class and has attended Exeter High School for all four years.

 

 

STRATHAM RESIDENTS ONLY

 

3.21     Donald Wiggin Memorial Scholarship – Exeter High senior who is a resident of Stratham who has been

active in high school affairs and accepted for post-secondary education at an accredited school.

 

3.22     Gifford Family Scholarship – For graduating seniors who have both resided in the town of Stratham

and attended an area public school for at least two years.  Scholarships are to be divided between an

            equal number of boys and girls.

 

BRENTWOOD RESIDENTS ONLY

 

3.23     Lindon-Green Memorial Scholarship – Sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary of Brentwood Fireman’s

Association for a senior who is a resident of Brentwood.   Must be a graduate of the Swasey School.

 

3.24     Lt. Michael Bennett Memorial Scholarship – Exeter High senior who is a resident of Brentwood and

will be pursuing a post secondary education.

 

 

NEWFIELDS RESIDENTS ONLY

 

3.25     Newfields Parent Organization Scholarship – Exeter High senior, 2 or 4 year program, Newfields

resident and graduate of Newfield Elementary School who is involved in school/community service.  Preference given to those with motivation to succeed more than high grades, financial need considered.

ADDITIONAL SOURCES OF SCHOLARSHIP AID

 

The following scholarship programs are administered through separate processes with varying application requirements and deadlines. 

 

William Robinson Scholarship Program – From the Trustees of the Robinson Fund

Applicants must be graduating seniors attending Exeter High School who plan to enroll as a full time student in an accredited degree or certification program.  Awards are based on motivation and academic merit.  Preference is given to those with the greatest financial need and may be renewable. Application packet available in the Guidance Office  (A139).

 

Greater Piscataqua Community Foundation – Seacoast Scholars Program

Scholarships are awarded to area NH students based on financial need and merit. Some scholarships give preference to EHS students. Completed applications must be at the Foundation office in Concord by March 16, 2007.  Applications may be directly downloaded from www.nhcf.org. – click on “student aid”.

 

NH Charitable Foundation – Statewide Student Aid Program

Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic merit and other specific eligibility factors.  Applications must be received at the Foundation office in Concord by April 13, 2007. For more information call 1-800-464-6641 or visit www.nhcf.org. under student aid. 

 

NH Charitable Foundation – Career Aid for Technical Students – Awarded to students who are entering 2 or 3 yr. degree programs or other technical training.  Applications must be received at the Foundation office in Concord by June 22, 2007.  For more information call 1-800-464-6641 or visit www.nhcf.org under student aid.

 

SST Scholarship Program

Various scholarships awarded to Seacoast School of Technology students.  Application information is available through the main office at SST.

 

Various National, State & Regional Scholarships

Scholarship information that Guidance has received from sponsors will be available to students in the Guidance Office (A139).  Application deadlines can be throughout the Spring.
